A parable from Rabbi Nachman:

A King was out hunting with his ministers. Suddenly, a heavy rain began to fall. Each minister ran to save himself. The King was left all alone. He found the house of a villager, who took him in, fed him some groats, lit the stove for warmth, and prepared a simple pallet for the King to sleep. The King was comfortable and happy. The next morning, the royal ministers searched for the King, until they found him in the home of the villager. They wanted to take him back to the palace. The King said:No. You did nothing for me! This vilager did everything. HE will bring me to my palace, and place me on my throne!"
Rabbi Nachman commented: "A great flood is coming, not of water, but of atheism and licentiousness. This flood will cover the highest mountains, and will even spill over into the Holy Land. All the sophisticated scholars and philosophers will be unable to cope with this. They will flee, and the kingdom will be on shaky ground. But the simple people of faith, who pray and recite Psalms, they will be unaffected. When the Messiah comes, it will be they who put the crown on his head, and seat him on his throne."
